Hogmanay at Hall House

We are all geared up for the biggest party of the year here at our house! Hogmanay-which most of us know as New Year's Eve-is the only time of year that Ian gets homesick for Scotland.

Ian & the pipers on our lawn>>

He loves Kansas for some crazy reason (he will tell you its because we actually have a SUMMER;) and most of the time he's happier here than he was back home, but no one else in the world understands how to bring in the New Year like Scotland does. They even have TWO official government-recognized days off every year to recover!

So on Hogmanay we throw a party at Hall House complete with family, friends, Celtic jam session and bagpipes. One year we had 5 pipers on the lawn at midnight-and yes, they were louder than the fireworks!!

This year we are making it a bit more special. My beloved grandmother passed away just before Thanksgiving. She was 93 and had lived a long full life but we will miss her!

She always said she didnt want a sad funeral, but a joyful celebration when she went. Last year she was the guest of honor at our New Year celebration so we decided to make this the "Bethel Tucker Memorial Jam Session" and sing a few special songs to celebrate her life as we say goodbye to 2009.

Sorry about your Grandma but what a great idea to dedicate a jam session to her memory! Happy New Year!

Great way to honour her memory.

I came here to wish you a very happy new year.
I hope some of your dreams come true.
:)

And my greetings to the fellow bagpipers.

A fine celebration of your grandmother's memory. Might I add that you also made me homesick for Scotland -best wishes for a happy new year.

looks like a wonderful and festive celebration. does your hubby enjoy Rufus Harley - BagPipe Blues? let me know and I can play it on our station for you.

in fact I'll just put it into the play list. if you'd like a mp3 let me know and I'll email you a link.

I'm sure your Grandmom enjoyed the celebration from On High.

Happy New Year to you and yours

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. But at the same time, congratulate you for understanding and appreiciating her for the wonderful person that she was.

I had two very different, but each in their own way, fantastic grandmothers that I miss terribly. Especially my mother's mother was my special pal.

I have admired you jewellery since the very first time I saw it. It's different, original, romantic and magical!

Best wishes for 2010!
Anna

What a wonderful tribute to your grandmother; I love bagpipe music, even though I haven't heard it for a long time :o)
