Fae Fashion Treasury Makes Etsy Front Page

Fae Elven Fashion is one of my favorite topics. You may remember back when I was searching for a definition of my unusual, not quite bohemian-sort of gypsy starchild-always a costume fashion sense I decided to call myself a "Fae Elven Fashionista":). SO- earlier this week I was delighted to discover that Roisin from the lovely Child of Danu Blog had included one of my fairy rings in a beautiful Fae Fashion treasury...I was even MORE chuffed to wake up this morning and find it had been on Etsy's front page! Isnt it lovely?

All That Glitters Gold for Christmas Sale

Lothlorien Crystal Forest Earrings

Ive been having SOOO much fun marking things down and putting them in my HOLIDAY SALE section on Etsy. I went sort of random in my choices, but also decided to include some of my favorite Christmas colour schemes...here are some from the Glittery Gold & Sparklies colour range (aka Lothlorien Crystal Forest Collection;)

Lothlorien Crystal Forest Necklace

Fairy Lights Magic Forest Ring

Midsummer Night Fairy Arm Cuff/Bracelet

The Fae Come to call

Oh I am SO chuffed...my new friend Gini, aka www.Jess8Cass2.etsy.com sent photos of her adorable girls in their Halloween costumes- complete with Jewelry by yours truly. I knew these costumes were going to be delightful just from her description and I was not disappointed. Cassandra & Jessica look absolutely adorable..and look like they were born fae as well (the ears look so REAL)!

Their mum is a talented Chain Maille designer who I met at the Etsy Chainmaillers & Wire Artisans virtual trunk show a while back....this is my favorite piece from her shop (and since my family reads my blog, YES, it is on my Christmas wishlist;) Click the photo to be taken to the Etsy listing for this piece, or CLICK HERE for her Etsy storefront.

Just in Time for Halloween...

...Or anytime you need to feel like a fairy princess!

I am introducing a new range of simple tiaras and circlets with a much more everyday price...so now you can buy one for each of your children, or for 'I dont know when I'll wear it, but I LOVE tiaras', or buy one to go with each of your favorite faery costumes;-)

These will be available in each of my elven forest colour ranges~ this one coordinates with my Rivendell Spring and Fairy Bower collections...if you want a different colour combination and dont see the one you want listed yet, just contact me!

Lorriane's Wedding

Ian finally finished the tiara for his daughter, Lorraine. She is getting married in a Scottish Castle, complete with kilts, bagpipes and maybe even a ghost or two...

Lorraine wanted a sort of goth but not too goth look, and we were delighted to find these gorgeous ivy leaf charms at one of our favorite bead suppliers. Ian worked forever to modify the leaves so they would work in the design, but it was well worth the effort!!

This design also has an optional Celtic Weave band that can be added:

THIS IS NOW AVAILABLE IN MY ETSY SHOP:
Elven Forest Ivy Leaf Tiara

Fairy Lights & Ancient Tones

The first piece in my new Fairy Lights Magic Forest collection

I remember late one night at a bluegrass festival in Bean Blossom, Indiana when I was 16...I was walking from one jam session across a field to a wooded area when I looked up and saw the most amazing sight. The WHOLE stand of trees on the other side of the field was covered in fireflies all the way to the top of the trees. I have never seen that many in one place at one time before or since~it was pure magic! I caught my breath and just stood for a few moments listening to the fiddle music wafting on the breeze and watching the twinkling fairy lights.

It may be a bit difficult to match a bunch of guys in cowboy hats to that image, but I really wanted to include this music with my story. Bill Monroe was a character, and his brand of music isn't for everyone, but he captured what he called the "ancient tones" in many of his tunes. Kentucky Mandolin is one of my favorites and was one of the tunes I heard played by some of these same guys on that magic night...close your eyes when you listen and I'll bet you can see the fairies dancing too;-)

Fairy Friday?

I've seen quite a few blog posts with alliterated titles like this, so Im thinking a Fairy Friday tradition would be good to start on my blog:-). Only I missed it by half an hour and its actually Saturday...Well anyway, you get the idea, right?

The Fairy Glen, Skye ©Karla Hall

Here is a photo I took of a magical place known as the Fairy Glen on the Isle of Skye off the coast of Scotland. Ian took me there the last time I was across. He is a very long suffering muggle and just sort of smiled at me as I exclaimed over every new thing I discovered on my second trip to Scotland...fairy bridges, fairy glens, ferry boats (very exciting for a Prairie girl, let me tell you).

To be honest, he was as fascinated as I was by the site of this unusual place. Its hard to tell from the photo, but all those ridges on the hillside are in miniature..you are driving a long the road, come over the crest of a hill and suddenly you are in this amazing landscape all in miniature! It is a natural phenomenon- I don't know what caused it, but it is not man made- you can see why the locals named it fairy glen, and why legends of the Fae still abound on the misty Isle of Skye.

NOTE: If you are finding this scene eerily familiar, it might just be because scenes from the movie Stardust were filmed in almost this exact location;-)

Here is a Tabblo of some of the other photos I took when I was in that part of the country...

Dreams of Midsummer

I have had so much fun creating my Elven forest jewelry range! When I first discovered Czech glass leaf beads I knew I had stumbled upon something that would keep me enchanted for a long time. The ear cuff was my first ever attempt at "crystal flower arranging" as I have come to call it. The lovely gold topaz leaves reminded me of Tolkein's description of Galadriel's home in Lothlorien and from there a collection was born!! After the cuff was born, I decided to make a bracelet and necklace, and eventually added the tiara and the upper arm cuff (which doubles as an exotic ankle bracelet:-).

I was recently commissioned to create this set for a fantasy artist in Denmark who plans to use these in a portrait of Titania- quite fitting I thought, as these colours always remind me of the height of summer. I am very excited about this project and will be sharing more once her piece is finished!!

As always, this collection and more is available in my etsy shop:

www.thyme2dream.etsy.com

Once you are there, search "crystal forest" to find all the pieces...:-)
